The use of 3-D sound processing also widens the stereo effect, so that this system’s sound seems to come from an area about two feet wider than the speakers themselves. The speakers are powered by an AC adapter or rechargeable Li-ion batteries, come with a credit card-sized wireless remote, and are easily compatible with all docking iPods. If you don’t have an iPod with a dock connector, just use the auxiliary outlet.

The Logitech Pure-Fi Anywhere uses a unique combination of speaker drivers to deliver clear sound with maximum bass and minimal distortion. Its compact size and long battery life make it the ideal companion to your iPod. Plus, the system comes with a 2-year limited hardware warranty.
Thanks to the Logitech Pure-Fi Anywhere’s advanced acoustics, you’ll experience exceptionally clear sound with maximum bass. A set of 2-inch Max-X active, high-excursion drivers delivers full, balanced audio, while 3-inch pressure drivers maximize the bass response. StereoXL technology widens the stereo image dramatically, creating an immersive audio experience.

The Logitech Pure-Fi Elite stereo system creates a full-functioning stereo from your iPod, filling any room with high-performance digital sound. Charge your iPod while you enjoy favorite tunes from selected playlists or from the built-in AM/FM radio–and control it all from across the room with the included backlit remote. The remote also provides easy one-touch access to shuffle and repeat functions, and even allows instant access to preset iPod playlists without navigating menus on your iPod.

  • Olympus rolls out ultra-light Olympus Evolt E420 DSLR (almost pocket-able!)

    Friday, March 7th, 2008

Olympus today took advantage of the relative quiet to revamp its EVOLT digital SLRs with the Olympus Evolt E420.
The 10-megapixel camera is claimed as the smallest and lightest ever in the category and weighs just 13.4 ounces, or at least 20 percent lighter than the next-best in the class.
It also represents an improved ease of use over the earlier E-410, with both a shadow correction function and a new onscreen autofocus feature that uses the live preview LCD to mark out properly focused subjects.
The combination is said by Olympus to produce a camera that can be used like a compact point-and-shoot while still offering all the control of a full SLR.

Also new to the Olympus Evolt E420 are a larger, 2.7-inch LCD with improved color accuracy and contrast, face detection for portrait shots, and better handling of automatic white balance.
Olympus ships the camera in May, starting at $500 for a body-only version.
A more common kit version will sell for $600 with a 14-42mm f/3.5-5.6 lens and should be accompanied by a more specialized, $700 edition with a fixed-focus, 25mm f/2.8 equivalent to 50mm on a conventional film camera.

Panasonic Lumix DMC-L1 w/Leica Lens with up to 35% saving?

    Saturday, January 5th, 2008

The Panasonic Lumix DMC-L1 is a digital SLR compatible with Olympus’ Four Thirds lens mount standard.
The L1 is an interesting SLR at that, with a traditional - perhaps retro - styling aesthetic.
It is based around the same 7.5 effective megapixel Live MOS image sensor that debuted in Olympus’ EVOLT E-330 digital SLR, along with the mirror box unit from that camera (which combines a quick-return mirror, viewfinder, and AE sensor). Panasonic’s proprietary Venus Engine III LSI handles the image processing, and Olympus’ Supersonic Wave Filter makes its first debut in a non-Olympus branded camera.

The Lumix DMC-L1 has a shutter speed dial on the top of the body, while a simultaneously announced Leica 14-50mm lens offers rings to control aperture, focus and lens zoom. As with the EVOLT E-330, the L1 offers a Live View function that allows images to be framed using the LCD display, regardless of whether you’re focusing automatically or manually. In addition, you can use the LCD display as a handy confirmation of focus via an enlarged view when focusing manually.

The L1 offers a 2.5″ LCD display with 207,000 pixels, at the high end of what’s available on digital SLRs at the current time. One other feature worthy of note is that the Panasonic DMC-L1 offers a Secure Digital card slot, and is compatible with the FAT32 file system - meaning that Secure Digital cards larger than 2GB are supported.

Amazon’s offer slashes by 35% the Lumix L1 its list price, from US$ 1.499 down to $968.96 with a gorgeus Leica 14-50mm Mega O.I.S. Lens!

Apple 8-Core Mac Pros, reduced Cinema Displays

    Wednesday, April 4th, 2007

Today Apple has refreshed its high-end Mac Pro line of desktop computers adding an ultra powerful 8-Core model. The top of the range now sports two “Clovertown” 3.0GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon 5300 series processors, with 8MB of L2 cache per processor (16MB total), while maintaining all the other specifications (which can be found here) of the Quad-Core models. The 8-Core Mac Pro comes as a build-to-order option from the Apple Store and is available now.

Apple also chose today to cut the prices of its Cinema Display line. All 3 current models see significant reductions, probably to tempt new Mac Pro purchasers to include the gorgeous displays in their orders. The 20-inch model is now $599 (from $699), the 23-inch HD model is $899 (from $999) and the high-end 30-inch model is $1,799 (from $1,999). Although there had been been speculation lately of a complete relaunch and redesign of the Cinema Displays, the only news to report are the lower prices.
