Two features set Kensington Battery Pack and Charger for iPhone and iPod apart from other external lithium batteries: it doesn’t attach directly to the gadget and it has the largest capacity.
Kensington sells two batteries – this larger one ($69.99) and a second, smaller battery that is named the Kensington Mini Battery Extender and Charger for iPod and iPhone 1G, 3G (Black) .
The Kensington Mini Battery , like the RichardSolo Smart Backup Battery and others, attaches directly to the iPhone.
The larger Kensington Battery Pack connects to the iPhone via a cable, thus eliminating one of the chief concerns with the other packs: unstable connections.
It also provides a whopping 100 additional hours of music, or 21 hours of video or 6 hours of talk. Its capacity is 1800mAh, the same as mophie’s Juice Pack and more than RichardSolo’s 1200mAh.
The battery is relatively light, weighing in at 3.5 ounces. It is 4 inches long, 2.2 inches wide and slightly more than a 1¼-inch thick.
The USB 2.0 to 30-pin charging cable allows for plenty of movement while the battery is attached.
In addition to the charging cable, the battery comes with a wall outlet power adapter and a charging cable that connects the battery to either the wall adapter or a USB port.
The battery can be charged with the iPhone attached, with the iPhone’s internal battery recharging first.

Apple yesterday rolled out new iPhone and iPod touch models with beefed-up memories and bumped-up prices.
Apple has just upped the iPhone’s storage capacity to 16gb, and the iPod touch 16 GB to 32gb.
The iPhone, formerly available only in an 8 GB model for $399 now has a 16 GB cousin that retails for $499. The iPod touch also added a big brother, launching a 32 GB model for $499 to accompany the 16 GB and 8 GB models that sell for $399 and $299 respectively.
“For some users, there’s never enough memory,” said Greg Joswiak, Apple’s vice president of Worldwide iPod and iPhone Product Marketing, in a statement. “Now people can enjoy even more of their music, photos and videos on the most revolutionary mobile phone and best Wi-Fi mobile device in the world.”
The new iPods touch and iPhones will ship with the new software that CEO Steve Jobs unveiled at last month’s MacWorld Expo in San Francisco, including a maps application that allows users to use a combination of cell tower and Wi-Fi hot spot triangulation to mimic a GPS device and find their location on Google-powered maps.

Partner site MacSwitching.com attended Apple’s presentation of new products like the MacBook Air and Time Capsule .
There’s a dedicated photo gallery about all new January 2008 Apple products available here.
First impressions?
MacBook Air is perfectly usable; keyboard layout is just like MacBook’s and the new LED display is much brighter and sports a wider viewing angle.
What really impresses is how fine the MacBook Air , as well all other Macs integrate with Time Capsule and get easier the usually tedious task of backing up data on a regular base using Leopard’s Time Machine feature.

Let’s admit it: from day one that Apple introduced Leopard’s Time Machine, finding an adequate hard disk to fit the tedious task of backing up our data has been quite a problem.
More problems for a multi-user home (more and more out there).
Meet Apple Time Capsule , right from the same MacWorld Expo where MacBook Air was born!
What’s inside Time Capsule ?
- an Airport Extreme 802.11N base station, well known and quite proven,
- three Gigabit ethernet ports,
- one USB port for printer sharing,
- a 500GB or 1TB 7200-rpm Serial ATA server-grade hard disk drive
- same sleek form factor of Apple TV.
The hard disk is available to all connected Leopard users as the preferred Time Machine default storage device.
(By the way, Tiger and Windows users are allowed to access the disk too…)
Available for pre-order in 500 GB an 1 TB flavors, the Time Capsule retails US$299.99 and US$ 499.99 respectively.

Wednesday, January 16th, 2008
The usual frenzy around SF MacWorld finally ended up with the announcement of the MacBook Air .
The thinnest Mac ever.
- a slimmer Core 2 Duo processor specially built by Intel for Apple and 60% of the original Core 2 Duo,
- standard 2 GB RAM,
- 80 GB HD or (optional) 64 GB SSD,
- 13,3″ eLed display.
- battery life: 5 hours…
- full wireless (over the Air) connectivity… of course!
- 802.11N + Bluetooth 2.0 EDR,
- weight: 3 pounds (almost 1.3 kg)
The MacBook Air has no built-in SuperDrive, an external unit, USB-powered, was announced too and will cost US$ 99.
Thanks to a new utility called RemoteDisk, running on both PCs and Macs, the DVD unit is almost useless, since you’re enabled to use some other PC/Mac DVD unit remotely.
Retail price of the MacBook Air is US$ 1,799 with more options to become available anytime soon.
